The position is a four-year, full-time PhD appointment split between the Mathematical Institute (MI) and the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS). The project investigates how structural properties of complex networks, such as clustering, community structure or degree heterogeneity, can be understood and modelled using mathematically tractable network models. It combines theoretical modelling with computational and data-driven investigations. It includes some teaching and supervision duties.
The application deadline is 24 November 2026, with a flexible start date, preferably before April 2027.
